Alonisos Island

History

62 kms is the size of the mountainous but fertile Alonissos. The first town of Alonissos was the old town built on a 210m hill overlooking the Aegean . Due to a serious earthquake in early 1960 s the inhabitants were obliged to move to the port of Alonissos Patitiri and Votsi areas and develop new houses.
The Last 10 years all the old town houses were renovated following the old traditional architecture  and the old village became a picturesque corner of this island with many little shops ,restaurants and coffee shops along its central road. Patitiri is not a very attractive area but one can find the beauties of this island out of town in the beautiful unspoiled beaches and country sites.

The main source of income for Alonissos people has always been agriculture and fishing
Alonissos is considered the paradise of fish, monachus-monachus seal, dolphins, lobsters e.t.c and that is the reason that the island itself and the desert islands in its north create the Marine Park of Nothern Aegean in late 1980s. The Steni Vala village is known as the picturesque fishing village of Alonissos, There is a line of  small fishing tavernas owned by the fishermen specialized in local delightful fish food.

We should not miss to mention that in Alonissos is established by Mr. G Vythoulkas  the International Academy of homoeopathy.

Alonissos is the most unspoiled and less developed island of all Sporades, friendly to its nature and hospitable to the tourists that need to spend and enjoy a holiday on a paradise island .
